Professor Patrick Smith, chair of our research committee and one of our founding figures, completed his term of office and left us on 17 May 2024.

We are hugely grateful for Patrick’s input, as a founding trustee  of CAW UK and also a Board member of the CAW Foundation in Norway. Before that he was a co-author of the groundbreaking manual Teaching Recovery Techniques, on which our work is based. His impact on many children’s lives has been immense.

As head of our research committee, Patrick  worked with colleagues to develop a research strategy and agree research funding priorities for CAW-UK.

Outside of his charitable work, Patrick is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at King’s College London Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience; and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in a specialist trauma clinic for children and young people at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

We look forward to continuing to work with Patrick and wish him every success in the future.

What we do makes a difference

Now more than ever, children need help to cope with the trauma they're experiencing.

Children and War UK is working to give them essential tools to reduce the long-term effects of traumatic stress.

Thank you.
