“We welcomed some truly world-renowned musicians and actors – many of whom had come in especially from across Europe and fought jet-lag from America to be here with us.”
Stars of stage and screen gathered at a glittering Evening of Cinematic Splendour, in Picadilly on 13 November, to raise funds for Children and War UK and the brain injury charity Same You.
Performers included film star Robert Powell, film director and former Bond girl Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Emmy Award-winning film composer and pianist Mark Chait, National Poetry Day founder William Sieghart, acclaimed cellist Adrian Brendel, prize-winning young pianist from Kiev Kateryna Pyshniuk and many others.
Over 200 people attended the invitation-only concert of words and music at St James’ church, Picadilly, and a reception afterwards at BAFTA next door. Our Chair, Maria Callias, gave a speech describing our life-saving work for children worldwide.
The evening was organised by philanthropist William Stancer and sponsored by Philip and Melanie Gibbs, Randy Fishburn, Andrew Sands, Tadashi Shoji and Andrea Tennant. We would like to thank them all, and all of the performers, for their support for our work.
