“I can’t think of a better way to help out the children of the world.”
Catherine Copping

New trustee

On March 31 our training lead and co-founder, Laura Timms, will be stepping down from the Board of Trustees. Her contribution has been invaluable, both to the charity and to the hundreds of children who have been reached through her TRT trainings. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Laura for her dedication and achievement.

In her place we are delighted to announce the appointment of Stephen Regal as our new training lead. Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham, Stephen founded the Centre for Trauma, Resilience and Growth and developed the first academic Trauma Studies programme in the UK. He is a trauma therapist and trainer, with four decades of experience working with survivors of trauma both in the NHS and a range of other organisations, including the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, ICRC and UNHCR.

Stephen says: “Whilst I have been involved with the Children and War Foundation for a number of years, this was an opportunity to now become more involved in the core work of CAW UK, which is training other organisations and professionals to deliver evidence based support to children affected by conflict and disaster.”

A second new trustee is Catherine Copping, a non-practising solicitor qualified in the UK and Hong Kong.  Catherine worked for many years in corporate law for two international law firms and has also done spells in-house for a global agrochemical company, and teaching law at The University of Hong Kong. She has a BSc from University College London and more recently completed an MA in History of Art with the Open University.

Catherine says: “The current global turmoil demonstrates the need for capability to implement support services rapidly, in disaster-torn areas. I can’t think of a better way to help out the children of the world.”

We also say farewell to trustee Stephen Matlin, whose term has ended. Visiting Professor in the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London, Stephen has contributed strongly to our organisational development and we will miss his insight and leadership.

Meanwhile we are actively seeking a new research lead, who will become a key trustee for the organisation as we develop new research projects and generate partnerships and funding for them. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact us about the possibilities in our research area.
